In Memory of Anne MacIver

It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of Anne MacIver on April 28, 2011. Anne was a needlelacer who was knowledgeable about many types of lace, particularly those of the British Isles. She lead the museum’s monthly Lace Identification Group and was active in the Embroiderers Guild and the literacy program through the San Mateo Country Library (Project Read). She was a kind and patient teacher with a very generous spirit. Her enthusiasm and lovely Scottish accent enriched our lives. Anne will be greatly missed.
A memorial gathering was held for Anne MacIver at The Lace Museum on June 26. Members of the Lace Museum, the Embroiderer’s Guild, San Mateo Scottish Dancers and Project Read attended. In Anne’s honor, volunteers made bookmarks to donate to Project Read. On the left is a sampling of the over 70 bookmarks donated in Anne’s memory. The Lace Museum also dedicated a needlelace drawer at the museum in Anne’s honor.

A Heartfelt Thank You to All Who Have Donated !

Only your gifts of money, lace and time have made it possible to keep the museum doors open.

You have made it possible to continue our mission:

To preserve lace and the art of lace making
To exhibit lace and its historical use
To offer instruction in all facets of lace making

Thank you to all who have donated book marks to be sold to help support the museum. We hope that more of you are working on something special for our gift shop. All donations of handmade lace to sell are welcome. We also need Christmas ornaments and lace snowflakes for our November sale.

Thank you to new volunteers who have stepped up to help us with newsletter, displays and workshops. More hands mean lighter work.

Guild Seeks New President

As we start a new year, it is a good time to reflect on the fate of the Guild and it’s goals and purpose. As well as many supportive members living outside the greater Bay Area, we have about 65 local members. About one quarter of the local members are active volunteers, either at the museum or demonstrating at fairs and shows. Most are not able or willing to attend Guild meetings on the second Sunday afternoon of the month. We presently have no one designated as President of the Guild. No one is organizing speakers or activities for the group. To retain our IOLI Charter, we need to revitalize the Guild and install a President. Is there someone who would be willing to step up to the challenge? Are there other ideas for a meeting time?
